Vernon dog walker allegedly slapped in the face, spat on by men at Kin Beach

A 59-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted while walking her dog on the beach.

VERNON - A 59-year-old was allegedly spat at and slapped across the face during an altercation while walking her dog on Kin Beach Tuesday morning, Oct. 1.

According to the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP police responded to a report of an assault at Kin Beach at 10 a.m. Oct. 1.

Const. Kelly Brett said in an email the 59-year-old woman had confronted a group of transients and an altercation ensued. Police arrested two males of no fixed address for assault.

According to a social media post by Laurie Mussio, the wife of the 59-year-old woman assault, things got out of control when a big dog belonging to the group at the beach came at her smaller dog. Mussio says in the post her wife was swinging their dog's leash trying to scare the bigger dog away from hers when the altercation happened and she was spat at and slapped in the face. The post says before the altercation, the men were washing in the lake.

The RCMP confirmed the woman was not injured, and the two men were released on conditions to appear in court at a future date.

This story was corrected 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2. An earlier version of this story said Laurie Mussio was the husband of the woman assaulted.
