A Vernon dentist barred from court challenges in BC tried to block his ex-wife from changing the names of their children in Saskatchewan.

The court dismissed his attempt in the latest in a series of losses for Andrew Nicholas Hokhold, who has wrangled his ex-wife into legal battles for more than a decade.

His ex-wife moved to Saskatchewan with their two children in 2014 after a four-year custody battle. She applied to the Saskatchewan government to change their names so the children wouldn't be associated with news coverage of their father's many court challenges, according to a recent Court of King's Bench decision in Saskatchewan.

"The family litigation has been incessant, with more than a thousand documents filed, in excess of 80 orders issued, and multiple appeals," Justice Jodi Wildeman said in her decision.

Among his claims, Hockhold said his wife should be held criminally accountable for giving false records to the province to change the names of the children, while also claiming his own Charter rights were violated.

Wildeman not only dismissed his claim, but also ordered he pay his ex-wife $2,500.

The judge noted Hockhold was named a vexatious litigant by BC's two highest courts. In an earlier Saskatchewan court decision, another judge said Hockhold was attempting to get around BC court rules by inflicting another challenge in the prairie province.

His ex-wife wasn't named in the decision, nor were the children. They separated in 2010 and it's not clear how old the children are now 14 years later.

In 2017, Hockhold was found to owe $450,000 in unpaid child support.

What he owes now isn't clear.
