A Vernon cyclist luckily escaped major injury after being struck by a semi-truck early yesterday morning, police say.

The 38-year-old cyclist was riding a dark bike while wearing dark clothing when she was struck by the vehicle just before 2 a.m., Feb. 19, Vernon RCMP say in a release.

The incident happened on 27 Street and 39 Avenue. She told police the driver of the truck continued northbound on 27 Street after the collision and police think the driver "may not have been aware part of the vehicle had made contact with the cyclist. At the time of the incident, the cyclist was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing and riding a dark coloured bicycle," Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release.

Police searched for the truck but there's no indication it was found. The cyclist was taken to hospital with "non-life threatening injuries" and police continue to investigate.
