VERNON - A vehicle smashed through the front entrance of the Village Green Centre early this morning and two masked suspects allegedly robbed a jewellery store.

The vehicle broke through the sliding glass doors located between Starbucks and Brown’s Social House around 3 a.m., triggering a commercial alarm that alerted police, RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in a media release.

Police say the suspects drove into the mall and ultimately crashed through the doors of Peoples Jewellers. Two masked suspects, wearing dark clothing, gained entry to the store and made off with an undetermined amount of jewellery, Brett says. The vehicle then fled the mall prior to police attendance and has not been located.

Police are looking for a Toyota FJ Cruiser, cream in colour that will have significant damage to the front end and will be missing a side view mirror, Brett says. The investigation is still in its early stages and officers are working with mall staff to determine what was taken from the jewellery store.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171. You may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leaving a tip online.

A portion of the mall is expected to be closed for part of the day. When contacted, the Village Green Centre did not provide any information.
