Vehicle flipped after attempted robbery in Kamloops

Kamloops RCMP tracked down their suspect in the Shuswap after he tried to rob a driver and caused the car to flip downtown.

Police first responded to the 400 block of Nicola Street last night, where two men were fighting near the flipped vehicle, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

One of them yelled out for someone to call 911, while the other fled the area with "visible injuries," just before 8 p.m., Feb. 22.

“Multiple police officers responded and found the owner of the crashed vehicle, who alleged a man had tried to rob him and an altercation occurred inside his vehicle, which caused his vehicle to collide with two other vehicles, then flip over,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn of Kamloops RCMP said in the release.

It's not clear what preceded the crash and robbery attempt.

The suspect ran down Battle Street to a vehicle and drove away, but Salmon Arm RCMP helped find him later in Tappen, according to the release. Police didn't say what time Salmon Arm RCMP tracked him down.

He was taken into custody, but then taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was already wanted on a Canada-wide warrant but it's not clear what crime the warrant was related to.

Police didn't identify the suspect, who hasn't been charged related for the robbery attempt.

RCMP are now looking to the public for video evidence and witness accounts. Anyone with information can contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
