PENTICTON - The Penticton Vees 4-2 win over the Merritt Centennial Wednesday allowed the team to grab first place in the Interior Division.
The win at the South Okanagan Events Centre put the Vees two points ahead of Merritt and West Kelowna who are each sitting on five wins and 10 points.
It was a sweet victory for the Vees who were eager to earn a win after losing to Merritt in a 5-0 shutout game Sept. 27. Dante Fabbro scored first on a power-play, nine minutes into the first period.
The next two goals were fired in a mere sixty seconds into the second period by Tyson Jost and Patrick Newell.
Merritt wasn't about to give the Vees the shutout they were vying for, and took two goals in the third, but the Vees had the last word, with Riley Alferd stealing the puck and scoring the team's fourth into an empty goal at 19:25.
The final score was 4-2 for the Vees.
