SURREY, BC- Kevan Kilistoff put the Surrey Eagles within one win of their first Fred Page Cup title in eight years. Kilistoff stuffed in a rebound off the end-wall at 5:44 of overtime, as the Surrey Eagles edged the Penticton Vees 2-1 Thursday. The Eagles now lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 with game six on Sunday at the SOEC.

Craig Wyszomirski threw the puck from the point behind the net, which then caromed back out in front. Kilistoff was in the right place, at the right time and whacked the bouncing puck up and over Chad Katunar.

The Eagles forced overtime when Trevor Cameron capitalized on a bizarre play at the side of the Vees goal. Cameron picked up the loose puck and curled out for a wrap-around at the near-post. Chad Katunar was caught at the other side of the net after his stick was hung-up on the outside of the goal; Cameron’s first of the series coming at 5:32 of the third.

The Vees “Trench-Line” opened the scoring in the dying moments of the opening period. With just seconds remaining in the period, Cam Amantea was first to a puck behind the Eagles net. Amantea then spun a back-hand pass out to Travis Blanleil who beat Michael Santaguida between the legs at 19:57; Blanleil’s second of the playoffs.

The game was a defensive stalemate for the majority of regulation, as both teams scoring chances were limited and both teams only had single-digit shots in each of the first two periods.

The Vees were again on the wrong end of some bounces in and around the Eagles’ net. Mike Rebry appeared to have an open net on a rebound in the second but the puck wouldn’t cooperate. John Siemer stripped Michael Santaguida of the puck from behind the net in the third, but he couldn’t tuck it in, as it scooted wide across the crease.

For the first time in the series, either side didn’t score a power-play goal, as each team were 0-4 on the man-advantage.
