PENTICTON, BC – The Penticton Vees Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce Chris Rygus (20) will serve as an Assistant Captain for the 2013-2014 BCHL season.

Rygus, 20, is set to embark on his fourth and final season of junior hockey; his first with the Vees. The Mississauga, Ontario native played last season with the Nanaimo Clippers before being acquired via trade this past off-season. The 6’3 rear-guard picked up six goals and 21 points in 55 games, to go along with 88 penalty-minutes last season with the Clippers.

Vees President, General Manager and Head Coach Fred Harbinson, "Chris has all the leadership qualities we look for in a captain, experience, dedication, and toughness.  Chris will be able to draw from the many championship experiences he has been a part of in the past to help lead our team."

Rygus does have a wealth of junior hockey experience, playing in over 150 games and has played in every major Canadian Junior Hockey League championship with the exception of the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge and the BCHL’s Fred Page Cup. Rygus helped lead the Maritime Hockey League’s Woodstock Slammers to the RBC Cup Final in 2012, where they fell one game short, losing out to the Vees 4-3.

Rygus rounds out the Vees leadership group for this season, as he joins Captain Brad McClure and Assistant Captain Travis Blanleil. Rygus makes his Vees debut this Friday, as the team opens their season at the BCHL Bauer Showcase in Chilliwack against the Victoria Grizzlies.
