Three Vancouver residents jump to safety to escape early morning house fire

VANCOUVER - Three people had to jump for their lives to escape flames tearing through the second and attic floors of their east Vancouver home.

The blaze broke out at around 5 a.m. and firefighters report the house in the 600 block of East Broadway was fully engulfed by the time they arrived.

The three residents leaped from the roof of the burning home to the roof of a next door property and all were taken to hospital, where one is being treated for smoke inhalation.

A firefighter was also taken to hospital for treatment of what may be a shoulder injury.

Crews were unable to save the home and were dousing hot spots before trying to get inside for a more thorough search.

A cause of the fire has not been determined. (Global)
