Mormon president to make trip to Pacific countries

SALT LAKE CITY - The president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will make another global trip next month to Australia, New Zealand and several other countries.

The Utah-based faith announced Wednesday that Russell M. Nelson will travel with his wife and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles member Gerrit Gong and his wife on the nine-day trip.

They will leave Salt Lake City on May 16 and make a first stop in Hawaii. Nelson is scheduled to visit church members in Samoa, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Tahiti.

Nelson has already visited 15 foreign countries since taking over the religion's top spot in January 2018.

Nelson has made several big changes so far, including repealing rules directed at same-sex couples and their children.
