TORRANCE, Calif. - Toyota is moving its U.S. headquarters from California to Texas.

The Japanese automaker announced the move Monday. It's not expected to begin until 2017.

Toyota says the new headquarters will bring together employees who are now scattered around the country. It will break ground on a new headquarters in Plano, Texas, this year.

Toyota will offer relocation packages to the 1,000 employees who currently work at the Torrance headquarters.

Toyota opened the Torrance facility in 1982.
