Recalls this week: children's chairs, surge protectors

Children's chairs and swings are being recalled because they have fabric that contains excessive levels of lead. Surge protectors that pose a fire hazard are also among this week's recalled consumer products.

Here's a more detailed look:

CHILDREN'S CHAIRS AND SWINGS

DETAILS: Leisure Ways pink butterfly themed children's camp chairs, moon chairs, and swings. The chair and swings have a metal frame with large red butterfly images and other colorful images on the pink polyester fabric. "Distributed by: Far East Brokers and Consultants, Inc." and "Tracking # November/2015" are printed on the tracking label sewn into the seat of each chair. They were sold at Weis Markets, wholesale distributors, grocery and drug stores nationwide from January 2016 through April 2016.

WHY: The screen-printing on the fabric of the chairs and swings contains excessive levels of lead, which is a violation of the federal lead paint standard.

INCIDENTS: None reported.

SURGE PROTECTORS

DETAILS: Three models of surge protectors, Idealist (360320), Idealist 2.4 (360321) and Agent (360322). The model number is located on the underside of the unit. The units have seven outlets and come in black or white. "360electrical" is printed on the front of the units. Recalled surge protectors do not have a single check mark engraved on the underside of the unit, right next to the model number. They were sold at B&H Photo stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com and bhphotovideo.com from July 2015 through February 2016.

WHY: The surge protectors can short circuit when non-grounded plugs are connected, posing a shock or fire hazard.

INCIDENTS: None reported.

HOW MANY: About 9,300 in the U.S. and about 1,000 in Canada.

BICYCLES

DETAILS: Four models of 2016 Focus Spine mountain bicycles. The Spine C (carbon) 0.0, Factory, Pro and SL were sold in three colours: black/white, grey/orange and green/light green/yellow. "Focus" is printed on the bicycle's down tube and "Spine" is printed on the top tube. They were sold at independent specialty bicycle stores nationwide from October 2015 through April 2016 for between $4,000 and $8,000.

WHY: The bicycle seatstay or linkage component parts used to connect the seat tube and rear axle dropouts can be incorrectly sized which can cause the frame to collapse, posing the risk of a fall to the rider.

INCIDENTS: One report of an incident in Switzerland. No injuries have been reported.

HOW MANY: About 80.

SLEDS

DETAILS: Hammerhead sleds, which were sold in blue, green, orange and yellow. The front handle bars have a steering system with polycarbonate skis. The rear HDPE skis are attached to the main aluminum frame. "Hammerhead Pro" is written on the top of the sled. They were sold at LL Bean, Yukon Charlie's nationwide and online at Amazon.com, EMS.com, LLBean.com, SharperImage.com and YukonCharlies.com from June 2014 to June 2016.

WHY: The front handle bar assembly can break, posing a crash hazard.

INCIDENTS: None reported.

HOW MANY: About 4,200.

HANDGUN SECURITY SAFES

DETAILS: Bighorn P-20 handgun security safes. The grey and black safes are made out of metal, measure about 3.25 inches high by 12 inches wide by 10.5 inches deep and weigh about 15 pounds. The Bighorn logo in blue and a four-button, back-lit electronic key pad are located on the top of the safe. The handgun security safes have serial numbers 1412160001 through 1412163000 printed on a sticker on the right hand side. They were sold at Canyon Sports, Coastal Farm & Ranch, Dean Safes, High Noble Safe, Co., North River Customs and other stores nationwide from March 2015 through March 2016.

WHY: The handgun security safes can be opened without the use of a combination, allowing unauthorized access to a handgun and posing a serious risk of injury to children and others.

INCIDENTS: None reported.

BODY ARMOR

DETAILS: AR500 Armor Level III body armour, including chest plates, side plates and ABS panels. The black, steel-core body armour is rated for protection against rifle calibres up to 7.62X51 M80 Ball (.308) at 2,800 feet per second. AR500 Armor is printed on a white label on the back side of the armour. Only AR500 Level III body armour with the manufacture date code of February 2016 and March 2016 are included in the recall. They were sold at AR500 Armor dealers and directly to customers and online at www.ar500armor.com from February 2016 through March 2016.

WHY: The body armour can fail to meet performance requirements for Level III body armour, allowing a bullet to penetrate, and pose a risk of gunshot injury or death.

INCIDENTS: None reported.
