CHARLESTON, S.C. - A police advocacy group says in a court filing that it doesn't want to pay the legal fees of a former North Charleston officer accused in the shooting death of a black motorist more than a year ago.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/2a69TKQ ) that Slager, who is white, hired an attorney through the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, but Charleston lawyer David Aylor dropped Slager three days later when video showed Slager firing as Walter Scott tried to run away in April 2015.
Slager sued, saying the group violated an insurance contract promising unlimited legal aid if he were involved in a shooting.
The group says the shooting, the planting of evidence and lying were not a part of Slager's job description.
