Comedian Jimmy Fallon, Chicago mayor ready to jump into chilly Lake Michigan for charity

CHICAGO - "The Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon is set to plunge into frosty Lake Michigan with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel following an exchange of tweets and challenges.

The New York-based comedian agreed to make Sunday morning's so-called Polar Plunge with Emanuel as a condition for the mayor appearing on Fallon's show. The annual event draws several thousand hearty plungers, all to raise money for Special Olympics Chicago.

Special Olympics Chicago President Jen Kramer credits Fallon and Emanuel with attracting more than 3,000 people for the run into the lake from the city's North Avenue beach. That's more than ever. Last year 2,300 people did it.

The weather in Chicago on Sunday morning is expected to be in the 20s, and the water temperature about 30 degrees.
