HOUSTON - Edward F. Kolenovsky, who covered the development of the U.S. space program, prize fights and many other major events during a long career as an Associated Press photographer, has died. He was 87.
Terry Kolenovsky says her father-in-law died Tuesday at the Houston-area home of her and her husband, Edward Kolenovsky Jr. She says he had been battling Parkinson's disease and dementia and they had been caring for him.
Kolenovsky joined the AP in Dallas in 1948 and retired in 1992. During that time, he covered spaceflights from Gemini through the space shuttle and served for two years in the Korean War. He also opened the AP's photo bureaus in Austin and Houston and covered many Gulf Coast hurricanes.
Kolenovsky's funeral arrangements haven't been finalized.
