An attorney for Silversun Pickups has asked Mitt Romney's campaign to immediately stop the use of the rock group's song "Panic Switch."
The Los Angeles-based band's attorney sent a cease and desist letter Wednesday to the campaign of the likely Republican presidential nominee. A news release says neither the band nor its representatives were contacted for permission and added that the group "has no intention of endorsing the Romney campaign."
Singer Brian Aubert says he doubts "that 'Panic Switch' really sends the message he intends."
A spokeswoman says the campaign's use of the song was inadvertent, but it was covered under the campaign's blanket licensing agreement and was not illegal.
Nevertheless, spokeswoman Andrea Saul says there are no plans to play the song again.
