Marine to spend year in brig for deadly rollover

SAN DIEGO - A Marine corporal will serve a year in the brig after pleading guilty to negligent homicide and reckless driving for a 2015 accident in which a 7-ton truck flipped during routine training at California's Camp Pendleton, killing one Marine and injuring 18 others.

The Marine Corps Times reported Tuesday that a military judge sentenced Cpl. Bin Guo to 4 1/2 years in prison but that was reduced to one year under a pre-trial agreement Guo reached with prosecutors. That is allowed in the military justice system.

Military defence attorney, Maj. Nelson Candelario told the newspaper that Guo will also not receive any punitive discharge under the terms of the agreement.

Marines in the accident and the parents of 21-year-old Cpl. Bryan Lauw, who was killed, testified at Guo's sentencing last week.
