Jurors see bloody crime scene photos in trial over killing of DC socialite

January 13, 2014 - 10:45 AM

WASHINGTON - Jurors in the U.S. trial of a German man charged with killing his 91-year-old wife have seen graphic crime scene photographs.

Testimony continued in D.C. Superior Court on Monday in the trial of 49-year-old Albrecht Muth. He is charged in the August 2011 beating and strangulation death of Viola Drath, a German journalist and socialite.

A forensic investigator with the medical examiner's office testified that Muth appeared anxious, but otherwise emotionless, after she arrived at the house to investigate the death. She says Muth was curious to know the cause of death and how it would be documented.

Muth has denied guilt. He is participating in the trial through videoconference after doctors said his self-imposed starvation has made him too weak to come to court.
