GUILDERLAND, N.Y. - Four people were found slain at a home just outside the state capital on Wednesday, authorities said.

Police in the Albany suburb of Guilderland told local media outlets the people were killed, but they didn't immediately release any other details or say if they were seeking a suspect.

Police Capt. Curtis Cox told WRGB-TV they didn't have "any reason to believe that anybody would be in danger." Police didn't elaborate.

The house where the victims were found is on a busy commuting route. The initial call to police, about a medical emergency at the house, was received at about 2 p.m.

No information was released about the ages or genders of the victims or how they were killed, but neighbours said the victims were possibly two adults and two children who lived in the house with another child. State police said they needed Chinese-speaking interpreters for interviews with potential witnesses.

Neighbour Rosalyn Kowalski told the Albany Times-Union that she had gone to the hairdresser and when she returned home her driveway was blocked by police cruisers.

She said that a child was outside rocking back and forth and pounding his fist on the ground. She said someone came and wrapped the young boy in a blanket and took him away.

Investigators went to court for a warrant to search the house.
