COLUMBIA, S.C. - An intriguing peek into the daily scribbles and life of author F. Scott Fitzgerald is now available online, just weeks before the opening of the movie "The Great Gatsby."

Researchers at the University of South Carolina's Thomas Cooper Library have put a digital version of the author's handwritten financial ledger on their website. The 200-page book is a throwback to life before computer spreadsheets, when people kept tallies of earnings and expenses on paper.

Elizabeth Sudduth is the director of the library's rare books and special collections department. She says this marks the first time the book is available to all readers, students and scholars.

The ledger provides a firsthand record of the famed author's works and earnings from his many short stories, books, and adaptations for stage and screen.
