Firefighter arrested for arson now faces child porn charges

SHELTON, Conn. - A Connecticut firefighter charged with setting a fire outside his firehouse is now facing child pornography charges.

The Connecticut Post reports 57-year-old William Tortora was arrested Wednesday after images of children involved in sex acts were discovered on his cellphone.

He's been charged with third-degree possession of child pornography and promoting a minor in an obscene performance.

Tortora has been in custody since his March 1 arrest. He's being represented by the public defender's office.

Police say Tortora and former volunteer firefighter Gregory Bomba set boxes on fire that were on the back of a pickup truck outside the Echo Hose Company firehouse in February. Tortora then drove around until the burning boxes flew off.

Both men were charged with arson, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
