Maggie Smith of 'Downton Abbey' wins the Emmy Award for best supporting actress in a drama

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Maggie Smith of "Downton Abbey" wins the Emmy Award for best supporting actress in a drama series.

She plays the Countess of Grantham in the popular PBS series and has won two previous Emmys.

She beat Christina Hendricks of AMC's Mad Men," Anna Gunn of AMC's "Breaking Bad," Joanne Froggatt of "Downton Abbey," Christine Baranski of CBS' "The Good Wife" and Archie Panjabi of "The Good Wife."

The 64th Primetime Emmys are airing live Sunday from the Nokia Theatre L.A., with Jimmy Kimmel as host.
