Chagall exhibit in Dallas shows lesser-known, rarely seen works including collages, costumes

.

DALLAS - An exhibit opening this weekend in Dallas showcases lesser-known and rarely seen works from the artist Marc Chagall, including ceramics, sculptures, collages and ballet costumes.

"Chagall: Beyond Color" opens Sunday at the Dallas Museum of Art. It's the only U.S. venue for the exhibit of more than 140 works by the artist best-known for his paintings with vibrant colours and imagery that includes people and animals floating through space.

The exhibit, which runs in Dallas through May 26, displays some of his best-known paintings alongside the other works, showing that similar themes can be found in all of the art forms.

Chagall, who was born in Russia in 1887, died at the age of 97 in France.
