PHILADELPHIA - Brad Meltzer is no stranger to heroes, having written about the Justice League and Batman.

His new stories are about historic people like Amelia Earhart and Abraham Lincoln that let young readers learn from authentic trailblazers.

The books, among six planned for Dial Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA), are about famous Americans and the challenges they faced.

The first two — "I Am Amelia Earhart" and "I Am Abraham Lincoln" — are out Tuesday.

He says the series, illustrated by artist Chris Eliopoulos, isn't stories about famous adults, but those who did laudable things as children. Earhart builds a roller coaster in a yard; Lincoln stands up to kids putting hot coals atop live turtles.

Kids, Meltzer says, will see they can be heroic, too.
