BOSTON - A man charged in a Boston Harbor boating accident that severed a 19-year-old woman's arm has been sentenced to 200 hours of community service working with amputees.
Alexander Williams pleaded guilty Thursday to negligent operation and other charges.
The judge continued the case without a finding for two years. That means it will be dismissed if the 26-year-old Boston man stays out of trouble during that time.
Prosecutors said Nicole Berthiaume was swimming and making her way back to the boat when Williams put the boat in reverse. She was pulled into the propeller, which severed her right arm.
Williams' attorney has said his client thought Berthiaume was drowning and was trying to help her.
Williams was also ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution and take an alcohol awareness course.
