Berlin Philharmonic in New York for 6 October concerts, including Bach's 'St Matthew Passion'

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Berlin Philharmonic will open Carnegie Hall's 2014-15 season with four concerts in October and will give two performances of Bach's "St. Matthew Passion" directed by Peter Sellars at the Park Avenue Armory.

The Carnegie season opens Oct. 1 with Berlin music director Simon Rattle conducting the orchestra and violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. There will be additional concerts on Oct. 2, Oct. 5 and Oct. 6, including the U.S. premiere of a composition by Georg Friedrich Haas.

"St. Matthew Passion," opening Lincoln Center's White Light Festival, will be performed Oct. 7-8 in a co-presentation of Lincoln Center and the Park Avenue Armory that includes the Rundfunkchor Berlin. The stage at the Armory's Drill Hall will be modeled on Berlin's Philharmonie concert hall.
