A 32-year-old Prince George man was arrested by police yesterday afternoon as he was leaving The Bay at Orchard Park Mall. Police drew their sidearms and also a directed energy device and were able to de-escalate the situation without harming the man.
Between 4 and 4:30 p.m. RCMP Const. Kris Clark says police received multiple reports from members of the public who witnessed the man.
"There was a number of different things that happened that made people call," he says. Some individuals saw him, "flipping the knife in the air, kicking out at passing cyclists... there was an allegation that he stabbed a car," Clark says.
Police also received a report the man might have been shoplifting in the mall.
He was first seen walking down Springfield Road near Ziprick Road and later spotted near the bus depot at Orchard Park Mall.
The man is now facing potential charges of mischief and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. He is expected to appear in court August 15, 2013.
