Original Publication Date May 27, 2018 - 8:55 AM

WEST KELOWNA - Fire crews knocked down a small fire on Mission hill that started last night.

The residents of Royal Gala Dr and Gala View Drive as well as the Mission Hill Winery were evacuated last night, Saturday, May 26. Evacuees were allowed to return at 11 p.m.

A media release sent by Fire Chief Jason Brolund estimates the fire covered approximately five hectares.

There were approximately 50 personnel on scene including West Kelowna Fire rescue, Peachland Fire rescue, Kelowna Fire Department, BC Wildfire Service, RCMP, WFN Law Enforcement and the BC Ambulance.

Air support from the BC Wildfire Service was requested and arrived on scene. It was determined that ground crews were making good progress and air support was not required.

The Boucherie Fire was quiet overnight and firefighters continued suppression and mop-up activities.

The estimated size of the fire remains 5 hectares.

A fire guard now surrounds the perimeter of the fire. Smoke and flame may be visible and crews from West Kelowna Fire Rescue and the BC Wildfire Service will be working today to put out hot spots within the fire area. No structures were damaged and there were no injuries reported.

There are no evacuation orders or evacuation alerts in place.

The investigation into the cause of the fire will be ongoing today, with fire investigators on scene this morning.

Further updates will be provided when information is available.
