UPDATE: Evacuation alerts remain in effect tonight in the Central Okanagan

Mount Eneas from the water across from Peachland, the additional smoke is from burn operations on July 22, 2018.

CENTRAL OKANAGAN - While an alert means residents can still stay in their homes, it means they should be ready at a moments notice to evacuate.

For the 698 properties in the Central Okanagan Regional District that will be the case tonight. These properties reside along Brent Road, and Highway 97 South and are the closest to the 1400 hectare Mount. Eneas and the 150 hectare Monro Forest Service Road wildfires.

If you were in the area you may have seen more smoke coming from Mount Eneas today. That was a planned event, however the Mount Eneas is still classified as out of control.

B.C. Wildfire spokesperson Glen Burgess said they are not anticipating any growth aside from the burn operation they had today. He also says, “If everything goes as expected we will make recommendations to downgrade evacuation alerts.”

As of 3:37 p.m. today, July 22, the following Central Okanagan addresses remain on Evacuation Alert:

  • 7100 – 7210 Brent Road
  • 7212 – 7280 Highway 97 South
  • Finlay Creek Cabins

All alerts and orders remain rescinded for the Goode’s Creek Wildfire south of Kelowna and the Law Creek Wildfire south of West Kelowna. BC Wildfire says no significant growth had occurred on either of these fires by mid-Sunday afternoon.
