United Rentals Ready for Summer, Equipped for Every Project

No matter how big or small the project, United Rentals has the equipment and tools to help get the job done.

“We’re seeing a lot more homeowners right now — a lot more people doing projects around the house and getting renos done,” said Victoria Roberts, the Kelowna Branch Manager for United Rentals. “Heading into the summer, on the residential side of things, we’ve got a lot of people out landscaping. For people doing their backyards, we’ve got mini-excavators and skid-steers and tiny stand-on skid-steers, so they can get into small areas. Forklifts are popular too.”

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, people have more time on their hands and many are embracing make-work projects, attempting something new or catching up on seasonal chores that may be long overdue.

People are renting boom and scissor lifts to clean gutters as well as pressure-washers and hydro-scrubbers to clean siding and driveways.

When normalcy returns to the world and business is back to usual for United Rentals, the construction industry — encompassing commercial and residential — will be eager to partner with them once again to fulfill their equipment needs. This will be supplemented by the ever-growing demand from local maintenance companies, as well as residential homeowners with their own unique personal projects.

The benefit with a rental is that the tools and equipment are well maintained and ready to use, and they aren’t creating clutter or taking up precious storage space when not in use. United has the equipment for everyone.

“It really just depends on the scope of the project because we serve so many different verticals. We have so much to offer. All of our fleet moves fluidly between all of our locations. So if we need something and we don’t necessarily have it, we can get it here fairly quickly — especially when it comes to customized tooling. We do have some pretty specialized pieces that not a lot of places will carry. We shuffle those around quite often for people.”

Rattling off that impressive list of inventory, Roberts mentioned “it can be as simple as a chain hoist or a beam trolley, but one really uncommon item is a pipe-freezing unit or sewer camera, so plumbers will often take that. Lots of different items — pipe-threaders, pipe benders, crimpers, things like that aren’t as common, but we do have them available and ready.”

It is worth the call to find out what United Rentals has in stock or can bring in quickly.

Customer service remains a key component, building strong relationships with their local clientele. Whether a home improvement project or a large construction contract, when working with an international company like United Rentals — which has more than 880 locations spread across 49 states and 10 provinces in North America — you have an amazing resource to the equipment you need with a single call to your local branch.

United Rentals understands the small contractors and helps them grow.

“Locally, we’re coming in almost as the little guys because we’re starting from the ground up,” said Roberts, who has been with United Rentals for six years and transferred from Vancouver Island to help Barry Laing establish the Kelowna branch in March 2018. “We’re heading into our third year of business here and the local market has been good to us. We are a big company, but we’re local people serving a local market, and our focus very much is on service and making sure people are happy with the service that they are getting.”

United Rentals is located at 3334 Sexsmith Road in Kelowna, open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit them online at unitedrentals.com to view their full inventory and to book equipment rentals.
