A driver and his passenger are in trouble with the law after getting pulled over in Trail.
While on a routine patrol during the evening of Feb. 9, an officer from B.C. Highway Patrol Nelson Police Dog Services checked the plates of a vehicle to discover that it was uninsured, according to an RCMP press release. The office pulled the vehicle over with help from members of the Trail RCMP.
The driver and passenger were both acting suspiciously, the release says. Then officers noticed a loaded handgun on the passenger’s waist and it contained a high-capacity magazine.
The passenger is now facing weapons charges, they have been release and are due in court at a later date.
In addition to having no insurance, the driver was also prohibited from driving and he was arrested. After searching the vehicle another loaded handgun was found as well as drugs in powdered form.
“Due to the diligence of our BCHP Nelson Officer working in partnership with Trail RCMP, police managed to pro-actively dismantle a situation that posed a real danger to both the public and law enforcement,” Const. Mike Moore said in the release.
“Weapons such as these must be possessed legally, and always transported in a safe and secure manner.”
