Ultimate Fishing Town: Kamloops

Avid ice fisherman

The World Fishing Network is looking for the Ultimate Fishing Town and die-hard Kamloops fishing aficionados have already nominated the city and it's surrounding river and lakes for the competition.

The nomination page states, “with it's incredible location, vast number of lakes and rivers, and a climate which ensures a long fishing season, Kamloops is truly the Ultimate Fishing town.” The contest has only been open for three days and Kamloops is already earning support in the campaign - seven different posters have added photos, videos, comments and stories.

People are encouraged to visit the “Town Wall” and add their own reasons why Kamloops is the Ultimate Fishing Town during the nomination period through April 15 to help showcase fishing in the city and why Kamloops deserves the title.

Canada and the United States are divided in to eight regions for the contest, the Western Canada regions includes all provinces and territories west of Manitoba. Currently 10 towns have been nominated in the Western region and all but two are in B.C. At the end of the first public voting period – April 15 through May 3 – two finalists per region will be named and a second voting period to determine the winner between the two will take place May 3-24. All winners will be announced June 4.

A $3,500 prize given out to each regional winner and one grand prize of $25,000 will also be awarded - with prizes to be put towards an organization, foundation or cause benefiting local anglers that is in or reasonably close to the winning town. Winners will be determined by public voting.
