Two new day spaces for people experiencing homelessness are opening in Kamloops for the next four months.
The City of Kamloops has partnered with a variety of organizations to operate the day spaces at both the North and South Shores, according to a news release from the City of Kamloops.
The Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society and The Mustard Seed have partnered with the City of Kamloops to expand services at 48 Victoria Street West.
The location, now dubbed The Gathering Place, is currently used as a mini storage facility, and will now will be open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
Outreach workers from both social agencies will also be on site, and the site will be cleaned nightly, according to the release.
The Gathering Place is funded by the federal homelessness strategy called Reaching Home.
The second day space, Envision, is on the North Shore at 346 Campbell Avenue, behind the Northbridge Hotel and Suites.
To operate Envision, the City partnered with the Kamloops branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, ASK Wellness, the Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society, and Interior Community Services.
Two outreach workers and a program coordinator will be on site daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. to provide supports and a shuttle service to shelters nightly.
Envision will also be cleaned on a nightly basis.
