Two neighbours in Kelowna victims of backyard attack

RCMP arrested five people after a long standoff Monday.

A 35-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly attacked a 40-year-old Kelowna woman in her backyard and then attacked a 66-year-old man who came to her defence.

Kelowna RCMP responded to the call on Coronation Street shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 22, according to an RCMP media release.

“Frontline officers immediately attended and located an injured 66-year-old Kelowna man,” reads the release. “The man stated he had heard a neighbour screaming for help and when he had gone into her backyard a man had attacked him.”

When officers located the 40-year-old female victim she was hiding in a neighbour’s yard. She told police that an unknown man had attacked her, attempted to choke her, and tried to get into her house.

Before taking refuge in the neighbour’s yard, the woman told police she ran into a nearby building, but the man followed her, so she had to find a new hiding spot.

Both victims suffered injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police were able locate a suspect in the area and arrested him without incident.

Brady Dolphin, 35, remains in custody and will be facing charges of aggravated assault, assault by choking, assault with a weapon, and break and enter.
