Two B.C. nurses have both been suspended for 60 days after collectively looking at the medical records of 250 patients.
According to the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives, registered nurse Jill Kenwood of White Rock accessed the confidential medical records of two family members, and over 150 other patients when she was not entitled to view those records. She also looked at her own records.
A Sept. 7 decision from the Nursing College says Kenwood accessed the records over the period of a year from May 2020 to April 2021.
The College gave no explanation as to why the nurse was allowed to keep accessing records she wasn't supposed to for such a long period of time.
Separately, licenced practical nurse Jennifer Wilson of Surrey admitted to accessing her own medical records, those of two family members and 97 other patients.
This took place between January 2020 and July 2021.
Again, no explanation is given as to how she managed to access so many records without reason.
Both nurses admitted to accessing the records will have to take courses on ethics, boundaries and consent.
In July, Kelowna nurse Sondra Bader was suspended for eight days for accessing the medical records she shouldn't have.
The victim in the case later told iNFOnews.ca she was stonewalled by Interior Health when she complained.
