PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP have removed two firearms from the street following two separate incidents in Summerland.

RCMP say in a media release members of the targeted enforcement unit found a man and woman using a stolen trailer with a stolen licence plate at the Peach Orchard Campground on June 27. Officers also found a significant quantity of illegal drugs and a 9 mm handgun.

A 54-year-old man from the Summerland-Penticton area was arrested and since charged with several offences including drug trafficking and two firearms offences, police say.

On July 2, a Summerland resident reported a suspicious white truck roaming the Trout Creek area.

A Summerland police officer intercepted the vehicle on Century Street and initiated a traffic stop, RCMP say. The driver then jumped out of the truck and fled the scene, leaving the vehicle to roll towards a nearby cliff.

Police were able to stop the vehicle before it crashed, and found a loaded sawed off shotgun inside. Further investigation revealed the gun had been recently stolen in Oliver.

Police do not have any evidence connecting the two incidents.
