Two people were killed in a fiery two-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Revelstoke near Three Valley Gap yesterday afternoon.

RCMP, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene of the collision around five kilometres west of Three Valley Gap on Highway 1 at approximately 12:36 p.m. yesterday, July 13, according to an RCMP media release. The highway was completely closed in both directions but has since reopened.

Emergency crews arrived to find both vehicles engulfed in flames, two people dead and three victims getting first aid from bystanders.

“Two off-duty Calgary Police Service officers, along with a BC Sheriff, witnessed the collision occur, and sprang into action to pull three victims from one of the vehicles prior to it being fully engulfed in flames,” Revelstoke RCMP Sgt. Chris Dodds said in the release. “It was an absolute display of bravery by these career first responders.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation by an RCMP collision analyst. The BC Coroners Service is also investigating.

If you have any information, or video of the crash, you’re asked to call Revelstoke RCMP at 250-837-5255, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at bccrimestoppers.com.
