Two people have died after their vehicle rolled down a 100-metre embankment and into a lake near Lillooet last week.
A B.C. Hydro employee reported a vehicle had gone off road down a 100 m embankment and into Carpenter Lake, March 21 at 5:15 p.m., on Hwy 40 near Marshall Lake Road, according to a press release from the RCMP.
Friends that were following in a separate vehicle said they saw the front vehicle pulling to the right and went too far, causing the vehicle to roll over the edge of the road.
Witnesses went down the embankment on foot and were able to pull one person from the water but were unable to revive them.
A second person was unable to be recovered from the vehicle that day.
B.C. Ambulance, Lillooet RCMP, and Lillooet Rescue all attended the incident, according to the RCMP.
An underwater recovery team attended the next day and recovered the body. The vehicle was towed out of the lake.
