VERNON - Police have now confirmed that two people missing after a house fire near Vernon last week died in the blaze.
Officials have not released the names of the victims in the house fire on Northernview Drive off Westside Road that happened at 4:15 a.m. Monday, May 21 but said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating.
The house was destroyed in the fire.
"The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing at this time," says Const. Kelly Brett, spokesperson for Vernon RCMP. "The Vernon-North Okanagan (General Investigation Section) unit will continue to work alongside the B.C. Coroner’s Service on identifying the two deceased individuals."
No further information was released or will be released at this time, she said.
