Two charged with attempted murder of RCMP officers following North Okanagan shooting

Two people have been charged with the attempted murder three RCMP officers following an incident yesterday near Falkland that appears to have involved a car chase and the suspects shooting at the officers.

Darwyn Allen Curtis Sellars and Jennifer Patricia Singleton have both been charged with attempted murder with a firearm in connection to the shooting yesterday, Dec. 3, according to court documents that named the RCMP officers.

Sellars, born 1988, is also charged with failing to stop a motor vehicle while being pursued by a police officer and possessing a firearm while prohibited. Singleton, born 1981, was also charged with failing to stop a motor vehicle while being pursued by a police officer.

RCMP released few details about the incident yesterday that saw Highway 97A between Falkland and Westwold in the North Okanagan closed for several hours.

According to a Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP media release, police received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the Falkland area just before 8 a.m. The incident then escalated and police said shots were fired while a vehicle fled police.

RCMP later used a spike belt to stop the vehicle outside of Westwold and arrested Sellars and Singleton.

Sellars was sentenced to 11 months jail in 2015, following an incident where police used tracking dogs and a helicopter to locate him in the bush outside 100 Mile House, according to a 100 Mile Free Press report.
