TORONTO - Shaggy to snazzy, Mickey Henry and Pete Schmalz have just undergone transformative makeovers care of a daytime talk show and they're marvelling at their ostentatious new duds.

Mickey and Pete preside over newfound wealth and freedom after winning "The Amazing Race Canada" — but as they assessed their slick new clothes with charming enthusiasm, it certainly seemed they had yet to notice that fact.

"My socks are sick, dude," Pete said Friday.

"Mine are like a 10-year-old's," shot back Mickey of his own colourful stockings.

"Dude, look at my boots," Pete pointed out. "You don't even have to untie them. You just unzip them."

"No way!" Mickey shook his head. "You look like a rock star."

"I am a rock star," Pete agreed.

With the deadline to apply for Season 3 of "The Amazing Race Canada" looming on Nov. 24, the eternally easygoing Mickey and Pete sat down with The Canadian Press to discuss life since their upset victory in the recent second season, which yielded $250,000, a year of free flights and two Chevy trucks.

CP: This must not be the first time you've gone shopping since winning.

Pete: I bought a bear shirt. A shirt with a bear on it. And a bow.

___

CP: What have you been doing since you won?

Pete: Same ol', same ol'. We've just been hanging out, not doing too much. We're going to Hawaii tomorrow hopefully. We're going to go somewhere. We can just go wherever because we have the (free) flights. We kind of flip flop. One day it's Ecuador, one day it's Hawaii. I think we're just going to go to the airport and...

Mickey: Figure it out.

___

CP: What was it like returning home (to Parry Sound, Ont.) the first time?

Mickey: It was nuts. First time we went into Parry Sound, it honestly took us half an hour to walk down one block because people just kept coming out of all the stores. People were coming out of the funeral home to say hi to us.

Pete: Stopping their cars in the middle of the street. Running out to get pictures with us.

___

CP: And lots of people getting in touch, I imagine?

Pete: Everyone comes out of the woodwork. Oh my God. It's awesome.

Mickey: "I'm your third cousin twice removed."

Pete: "Remember that 20 bucks you owed me?"

___

CP: Have you watched the U.S. version of "The Amazing Race" that's on right now? I don't know if there's a Mickey and Pete in that bunch.

Mickey: Everybody seems stressed out and super competitive.

___

CP: Do you think there's a lesson to be learned in the way you ran your race?

Pete: Maybe. Stressing out never helps, you know what I mean? You're going to do what you do and worrying about it never helps. When people get flustered and freak out, that's when they fall apart. Me and Mickey tried not to do that.

___

CP: Did you see a lot of Mickey and Pete Halloween costumes?

Mickey: We saw so many! So many little dudes. My mom ran into (one) and she said: "Oh my God, you're Mickey!" And he said, "I'm not really Mickey. I'm just pretending to be Mickey."

___

CP: Did you guys dress up?

Pete: We dressed as the Olympians (Meaghan Mikkelson and Natalie Spooner). It was pretty rad.

___

CP: Has there been a downside to money and fame?

Pete: I feel like some people, they expect you to buy them drinks and stuff. C'mon. I don't have that much money. But yeah, mostly everyone's super cool about it. It's been great.

___

CP: Once you got back from running the race, did you need to take a break from one another?

Pete: When we got back to Parry Sound the first night, it was like the first night we hadn't been together in over a month. It was weird. I was like, "I wonder what Mickey's doing right now?" Separation anxiety.
