After a second straight banner Canada West regular season, Ryan Glanville of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team has been named a league all-star.
The Masters of Business student from Williams Lake, BC was chosen as a first team Canada West all-star in a vote of the league’s coaches. Glanville was third in league scoring with 10 and tied for sixth place in overall scoring with 11 points in 15 matches. He had 42 shots (21 on goal) a shooting percentage of .238 and two game winning goals.
Last year, Glanville was a second team Canada West all-star: the first WolfPack soccer player ever to receive that honor since the program moved into USport (formerly CIS).
On his selection this year, the humble Glanville stated: “Its is an honor to be selection and speaks to how far the program has gone. Our team keeps getting stronger which makes my job of scoring goals easier. This season was quite the ride as it came down to the wire as to whether we were going to make the playoffs. Being so close to it and not making the post season will sting for a while but I am optimistic of what we can achieve next year. There is a lot to look forward to especially since it will be my last year and we are hosting nationals. I am confident our group of guys will ensure I get a good send off at nationals and go out with a bang.”
The 33 year old forward jokes that he will have to book more physio visits with athletic therapist Kevin Brechin as he isn’t getting any younger.
WolfPack coach John Antulov: “We are very pleased and honoured that Ryan was selected as a 1st team Canada West All-star. Once again as a new program in U Sport and in a very difficult league – Canada West – for us to have a player selected as an All-star 2 years in a row says a lot about the growth in our program. I feel we should have another in Justin Donaldson who I thought was deserving of a nod as well. It speaks to the level of talent that is coming to TRU and putting our program on the map for soccer.”
Antulov goes onto say: “Ryan has been a fantastic ambassador for TRU men’s soccer, not just for what he does on the field, but off the field as well. It has been well documented on his heavy workload and how he manages that with playing and being an Academic All Canadian. He is a standard bearer for the type of player/individual we want at TRU and is a great role model for our younger players we have and new players coming into the program. As a program, we couldn’t ask for anything more from Ryan and we look forward to having him finish his career with us and lead us into U Sport Nationals next year.”
