After a successful qualifier held a the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, two Thompson Rivers University athletes will be heading to the Olympics.

According to a release from the university, this is the second time Creston native Gord Perrin and Kevin Tillie from France will be representing their respective countries at the Olympic games. Both men play on the TRU volleyball team and will compete during the Tokyo Olympics which begin on July 24 and run until Aug. 9.

Perrin and Team Canada were unbeaten at the Vancouver qualifiers, and both Perrin and Tillie received similar scores during a qualifier in Europe, TRU says.

Perrin, the captain of Team Canada, met Tillie during the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil when France and Tillie beat Perrin and Team Canada 3-0 in the preliminary round. Canada made it to the quarter-finals but lost to the Russian Federation.

Canada finished tied for fifth while France finished ninth. The host country took home the gold medal that year.
