KAMLOOPS - Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops is the “top cool school” in Canada and the U.S., at least according to a national environmental group.

TRU ranked high in the Sierra Club of Canada’s rating system in areas such as sustainable energy, purchasing, public engagement, water, waste and buildings.

TRU stood out against more than 280 other colleges and universities across Canada and the U.S. a release from the university says.

The "cool school" status comes just a few days after the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education listed TRU as the top master’s institution in its 2019 Sustainable Campus Index. TRU came number one in the energy category and tied with the University of Alberta for coordination and planning.

The university also achieved a platinum rating in the Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System, making it the first university in Canada to achieve that status and one of only six in the world to reach that level.
