Trio of wildfires near Little Fort out of control

FILE PHOTO

KAMLOOPS – Wildfire crews are on scene at three fires burning uncontrolled in the Little Fort area.

There are two near Dunn Lake and one near Thuya Lakes; the two near Dunn Lake are large enough to have nearly joined together, fire information officer Tracey Wynnyk says, covering 120 hectares in total. The Thuya Lakes fire is 50 hectares.

All three were among the 173 reported yesterday. All are out  of control.

Evacuation orders and alerts have been issued due to the fires.

Wynnyk says provincial crews are working on the Dunn Lake fires along with local fire department members and a helicopter. The team includes structural protection members but Wynnyk says she hasn’t heard if there are any structures in immediate danger.

The Thuya Lakes fire is being attended to by a helicopter and local fire department members.

Wynnyk says all the fires she sees currently burning in the area started yesterday. The cause of the Little Fort fires is suspected to be lightning.
