The Tremont Creek wildfire continues to spread southeast as it encroaches on the edge of Tunkwa Provincial Park.

It is now estimated to cover 27,624 hectares and is currently 15 kilometres northwest of Logan Lake, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service on Aug. 3.

The Tremont Creek wildfire was first discovered on July 12, and while fire guards were successful to prevent its spread to communities on the north and west flanks, it has more recently been burning toward the southeast.

The District of Logan Lake is now on evacuation alert, and Tunkwa Provincial Park was given an evacuation order from the Thompson Nicola Regional District on July 30.

Today, there are 33 firefighters at the wildfire, with assistance from seven helicopters and 35 pieces of heavy equipment. Their objectives on Tuesday include planned ignitions along the south to bring the blaze to fire guards around Glossy Mountain.

In the Barnes Lake area, firefighters are patrolling the western side of the wildfire as it is in mop up condition, according to the wildfire service.

There are five structure protection personnel and one specialist assigned to the Tremont Creek wildfire who are setting up structure protection equipment and monitoring structures that may be at risk of the blaze.
