The Trans-Canada Highway is currently closed in both directions following a fiery crash near Golden.

DriveB.C. is reporting the incident east of Golden this morning, Aug. 28. Witness Kim Redlich said the collision occurred between two semi-truck trailers and he saw the blaze shortly after 6:15 a.m.

"The cabs were destroyed and both were engulfed in flames," he said.

Cattle was being transported in the westbound trailer and some died in the blaze, he said.

It took roughly 30 to 45 minutes for first responders to show up, he said.

A detour is in effect via Highway 95 and an assessment is in progress.

The road is not expected to reopen until Monday, Aug. 29, according to DriveB.C.
