Train plows into car, driver and passenger avoid injury

FILE PHOTO

KAMLOOPS – Yesterday evening a car became stuck on train tracks and quick thinking by the driver and passenger allowed them to escape injury.

A westbound train ran into a small Toyota and while the car sustained heavy damage, no injuries were reported, according to an RCMP release.

Yesterday, March 11 at 11:09 p.m., police received a 911 report of a train hitting a car at the Tanager Drive crossing. Investigators say the driver tried to turn left off the east Trans-Canada Highway onto Tanager Drive and slid off the road, into the train tracks.

Police say the driver and passenger got out of the vehicle right away and called 911.

The train wasn't able to stop in time and crashed into the car. The car was severely damaged as a result.
