An online fundraiser for a Kelowna woman killed by her ex-husband last week has raised $30,000.
Bailey Plover was killed in Kelowna last week and already the online fundraiser started by Tamara Bridal for Plover’s father Shane McCourt to raise Bailey's two daughters has reached $29,955 as of the time of writing this article.
“Shane's beloved daughter, Bailey, was tragically taken from this world in a violent and heartbreaking act. She leaves behind two beautiful daughters, now left to grow up without their mother,” Bridal wrote on the fundraiser page.
The funds are going to help with the funeral costs and living expenses since McCourt is taking time off work.
"As you can imagine, Shane is completely heartbroken. He is now stepping into a new role — first and foremost is making sure his granddaughters are taken care of while navigating grief, legal challenges, and an overwhelming financial burden. He will be missing work for the foreseeable future, all while managing funeral costs, household expenses, and the emotional weight of this unimaginable loss," Bridal wrote.
Police were called to the 1900-block of Enterprise Way around 1 p.m. on July 4, according to a press release from Kelowna RCMP.
James Edward Plover allegedly killed his ex-wife Bailey Plover in broad daylight. Plover and another victim were taken to hospital after the attack.
Plover died of her injuries and the other victim is still recovering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
James Plover has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently in custody. His next court date is July 10.
He was previously charged with domestic violence back in August 2024. He was charged with assault by choking and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
He was released the day after the offence. The case was stayed so he never went to trial, according to the BC Court Services website.
RCMP said it is still investigating and is asking anyone with information about the accused in the days leading up to the murder to come forward.
“This was a highly visible and tragic event, and we recognize the profound impact it has had on many individuals and the community,” Insp. Chris Goebel, Acting Officer in Charge of the Kelowna RCMP said in a press release.
“While our investigation is ongoing, we are incredibly grateful to the witnesses who have already come forward and the first responders who acted swiftly and professionally in managing this high-risk situation. Their cooperation has been instrumental in helping us move this complex investigation forward.”
