KELOWNA - The fire has been lit.

The 2019 B.C. 55+ Games are coming to Kelowna on Sept. 10-14. In honour of the upcoming event, the ceremonial cauldron was brought to life with an official torch lighting at Stuart Park on June 22.

“Today we acknowledge the tremendous work of so many individuals,” said David Graham, President of the Board of Directors for the Kelowna Host Committee, in a press release. “While we are kicking things off and counting down the next 80 days to the games start, more than a year of work needs to be recognized to get to this point."

In the release, Mayor Colin Basran noted the games could generate $3 million in Kelowna's economy.

Nearly 4000 athletes are expected to compete in more than 30 games during the autumn event.
